If you haven't notice, I only update this site after each otakon. I don't believe in using DA as a portfolio site, simply because it's not a professional form of displaying my work and I'm trying to get hired by legit bushiness as an illustrator/graphic designer. If you want to look at what I've been doing, you can go to my portfolio at alaskakellum.carbonmade.com/ . My contact info is on there if you want to commission me or are interested in buying a painting. Or if you just want to give me money! That totally works! Feed me! Or you can fallow me on tumblr at mynameisalaska.tumblr.com/ and read about my adventures and my roller derby career.

But yes, Otakon. That magical three day even that happens every year in the greatest city ever (I say that about Baltimore even after seeing used condoms on the streets). I made a Chell costume from portal this year. I needed to retire Yuffie because a lot of people I know wanted to see me make another great costume. So I made my Chell costume in a month and was working up to the very last minute to finish my portal gun, which lights up two different colors. It's made out of pbc piping, foam and some other stuff. I also bought a POTAToS kit from thinkgeek, so I had a GLADoS. I wore that Friday and Sunday. A lot of people were impress by it and the fact that my costume was very detailed. But the boots were EXTREMELY painful and the gun was heavy. So I had to take a break in between and wear my Yuffie costume again. It's funny because a lot of people recognize me as the Yuffie from the year before even when I'm dressed as Chell. And a lot of people don't know how to say Yuffie's name. And they always think I'm from Naruto....

So it was pretty good con. I saw all my friends who live in different states then me. I was given a "hurt feelings report" by a black mesa scientist who heard about my neurotoxin exposure. A raver with a potato on a stick came up to me and asked if Glados' slow clap processor made it in. I told Awesome Vincent I was going to "burn his house down with the Lemons" since I promised to deliver threats. And I saw a shirtless Altair, which I liked because of reasons. I'm trying to play all the Creed games before the third comes out. I have an obsession for Altair now and may have bought a large poster of him. I know he's a douche but he does become less of a douche.

So yeah, I plan on going to Otakon even when I'm old. I plan on being the most awesome old person ever. You know, cosplaying, covered in tattoos, still swearing, playing roller derby in a wheel chair. So now I must wait another year to experince the magic of that which is otakon. So I probably won't update for another year, for the three people that probably still fallow me.

I don't post any of my real art work on DA, mainly so it can't get stolen. I just post dumb crap on here. I have a portfolio loaded up at alaskakellum.carbonmade.com/. Look at it! Hire me for freelance! Give me money!

Look at me! Finally updating this account in over a year. Where was I? Mostly hiding in my apartment doing artwork for class.

But the magical experiance that is known as Otakon happened again! I was Yuffie again for the first two days. I just keep on being Yuffie because I haven't watched any new anime and I haven't been able to play newly relased games, so I couldn't come up with any new characters to be. A lot of the stuff I now read is so obscure that no one would get it or the characters wear stuff that's not a good idead (Mostly things too hot for July and heals). I was also going to wear my party robot costume I made for a video project but it was too big to lug around with my stuff. I was the Dirge verison of Yuffie this year so I did up grade. I also made a new weapon since the one from last year broke and I re-made my Vincent plushie's body since he was falling apart due to years of fan girl abuse.

On friday we ran around the con a lot. I got a "I want to Believe" poster. My costume stayed together except for the shoes that I made. The vinyl wasn't staying attacted to the fabric underneath so I ended up electrical taping them. You would think that if I made the shoes myself, I would have given them arch support but that completely slipped my mind so the shoes proved to be quite painfull after two days. I also discovered blood stains up and down my leg that night when I took the boots off. We later went to the rave, were I was rave Yuffie (or "Ruffie" as my friends called me). And there was a lot of Ke$ha impersonating in the hotel room. Saturday was more interesting. More of my friends showed up that day so I got to catch up with them. I also bought a copy of "Cosplay in America" which the author signed for me and wrote about robots and unicorns in it. I also got Awesome Vincent (who we ran into over and over again like every year) to sign it for me. I later went to the rave again in normal cloths and got to see a Dancing Jesus and Captain America. But some random guy came up behind my and tried grinding on me. So in beat to the music I did this "hop away from the creeper" move to safty. Then I went owling in front of the hotel. On sunday I was Sally Jupiter, but a lot of people thought I was Lady Gaga for some reason. I also stupidly didn't wear socks along with the fishnet stocking, so the stockings got pretty painful too. I also got to try on a corset for the first time which was a very intersting feeling. It was also intersting watching these abunch of men's faces turning red as they tired to squeez into one.

It was a pretty good otakon but I was kind of disappointed in the lack of "hard Gay" cosplayers. I was also sad this year because my favorite web comic artist has kind of dropped off the face of the earth and wasn't there. This otakon also felt lacking is crazyness. Were where the people diving into the fountains or running mock rpg battles? Well now that's it over it back to worrying about deadlines for the paintings I'm procrastinating on and counting down for next years otakon. I will try not to be Yuffie again, but knowing me I'll get lazy and just end up wearing the same costume. Maybe I'll be Ke$ha, wear cow girl boots, bath in glitter and walk around with a bottle of Jack and a tooth brush.
